abstract of a colourful quilt

A Quilting Bee

The artist reflects, "All of my work starts with a colour in mind. The chosen colour reflects my mood and the colours surrounding me at the time. Clearly the four seasons are a great influence as are natures elements that I experience when I travel. I love sunrises and many of my colour combinations come from their magnificence. This one brings to mind a quilt like one made during a quilting bee, which is a term referring to a social gathering in which the participants make quilts.

My process involves covering the canvas with a few key colours using a palette knife and adding variations of texture and complimentary colours. I then decide if I am going for a true abstract or an abstracted landscape. I add and subtract layers until something interesting emerges composition wise. It is an intuitive process and the end product often surprises me!

Bring a sense of excitement and interest to any space with this multicolour abstract with depth an exquisite dance of shapes and colours. This stunning abstract features a harmonious blend of colours, not overpowering but complementary to any contemporary or mid-century modern space.

Acrylic on canvas.
